QUESTIONS TAGS 2023

 These are shortened questions.

Look at this sentence.

You are coming tomorrow,  aren't you?

In this sentence the speaker has  said something  and then added a short question. He expects the listener to say yes and seeks confirmation.

This short question is called a question tag.

Question tags are very common in conversations.

Rules of Question Tags

1. The verb in the question tag is either the auxiliary  used in the statement or the proper  form of do, does, did.

2. If the statement is affirmative,  the question tag should be negative.

This negative is formed by combining the auxiliary  with 'n't'. But the statement is negative,  the question tags will be positive.

E.g.

He is not very intelligent, is he?

He is very intelligent,  isn't he?

3. There is always a comma between the statement and the question tag. And a question  mark at the end of the sentence.

4. Sentence and question tag must be in the same tense.

5. Always use pronoun in question tag.

6. Always use contracted form in negative question tag.
